The Bible |
The Bible is God's revelation to man. Every word in it was spoken by God to his servants and preserved for us today. It is perfect, complete, trustworthy, and transcendent of time and culture.
God desires us to study it, obey it, and honor it. It is the final authority for our beliefs and our lives. |
God |
God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He is one God existing in three persons (the Trinity, or Godhead). All three - the Father, the Son, and the Spirit - have existed for eternity and are equally God.
|
Jesus Christ |
Jesus Christ is the eternal God (the Son) who became human, living a literal life on earth while retaining his full nature as God. He came to seek out and to save the lost, to be our perfect example, and to be punished in our place according to his Father's will.
He was born of a virgin, and he was raised from the dead, proving that he is God. He is the authority of every believer, and someday he will reign as King over the earth. |
Sin & Judgement |
Because of Adam's sin, mankind is inherently sinful. People tend toward selfishness, rebellion toward God, unnatural and harmful pleasure, and pride.
Someday God will judge all men according to his Word, and those who are found to be sinful will be punished in Hell for eternity. The earth and its inhabitants are currently under the curse of sin and therefore experience death, sickness, and tragedy. |
Salvation |
When Jesus Christ died on the cross, according to God's plan, He made it possible for all people to be saved from their sin.
All humans are sinful and deserving of judgment. We do not have the ability in ourselves to stop sinning or to make up for the sins we've already committed. Jesus Christ's death was the full punishment for the sin of all mankind - He was our substitute, being punished in our place. God invites us to receive his free gift of salvation through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Those who believe on Christ receive full and unconditional forgiveness of the punishment for their sin. God then receives them into His own family and offers them freedom from the power of sin in their lives. When a believer dies, his spirit goes to Heaven to be with God. Someday God will bring full restoration to this earth, renewing it from the effects of sin. Then those who believe will live forever in perfect bodies on a perfect earth with God. |
The Church |
Those who receive Christ are immediately placed into the body of believers called the Church. The Church operates today through local churches - assemblies of believers with God-ordained leaders, acting as individual bodies.
The Holy Spirit of God lives in the heart of every member of the church and equips them with specific abilities to serve in the Church. The Church exists to continue Jesus' work on earth, to edify believers, and to proclaim the truth. Every member of the church is commanded to grow in God's grace, to be transformed into the image of Jesus Christ, and to look for Jesus Christ's eventual return to earth to receive His people. |
